Louis XIV (5 September 1638 – 1 September 1715), known as the Sun King, was a monarch of the House of Bourbon who ruled as King of France from 1643 until his death. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest of any monarch of a major country in European history.
He was obsessed with every detail of government and art, pushing administrators and artists to produce the finest examples of their graft to glorify and enrich the kingdom.
