Button, Button; Who's got the button?

Evergreen Piecemakers July program was Dorothy Krugner. For nearly 20 years, Dorothy has found an outlet for her love of history in an unlikely place -- the modest and useful button.

"Buttons have a lot to teach us," says Dorothy, who has a collection of more than 40,000.As clothing fasteners they're a relatively modern invention, dating only to the 13th century. Materials used in button-making include bone, cloth, glass, stone, cinnabar, horn, antler, leather, metals, ceramics, shells of any type and, of course, plastic. For nearly 20 years, she has found an outlet for her love of history in an unlikely place -- the modest and useful button.
