Stitching Through the Layers - the Details

Marrakesh
(from Stitching Through the Layers)
Diagonals tend to convey the notion of energy and excitement which is just right for this striking quilt. Using the fabric pattern on the back, this was stitched entirely from the back, first with a very thick purple thread wound on the bobbin and then a thin orange machine embroidery thread going the other direction.

Mary Haunani Cesar - Maker of Traditional & Contemporary Hawaiian Quilts

Last night was program night at my guild Evergreen Piecemakers of Kent WA. Mary Cesar presented Hawaiian Quilts. Talk about the thread that binds...her quilts were wonderful examples of what to do with thread, be it hand or machine worked.
