The Quilt Show, Andrea Brokenshire is there too!

I filmed with Andrea Brokenshire, who make wonderful floral quilts with confetti background. Andrea says the botanicals represent life to her.  She developed this confetti background idea in 2005. She doesn’t garden (a woman after my own heart) but her Mother is a Master Gardener.

The Quilt Show - the audience

Filming with a live audience helps me relax in front of the camera. Many of the audience members come to lots of tapping's. They always film in March in the Denver area, so if you live close, check out their website for tickets next year!

Textures

The textures of Hawaii.
Texture is another element, like form or space, that can be real (run your fingers over an Oriental rug, or hold an unglazed pot), created (think of a really well quilted quilt) or implied (through clever use of shading).

I am always looking for new textures.

A Busy Day

Today was one busy day. It started with a long ride to Lindon WA,  to present my lecture, Quilt Toppings for the ladies of the Northwest Quilt Connection. This is a group that gathers 5 times a year to feed their passion for quilting in all forms–Art, Contemporary, Traditional.  They are from British Columbia, Canada and Washington State.  The meetings rotate around so be sure to check back for meeting locations and information.
Show and Share

There is a cute shop in town, I just had to visit.  Owners Sharylann and Thelma are dedicated quilters and have made Tangled Threads into the kind of shop they would want to visit: warm, friendly and relaxed, brimming with books and patterns to inspire, busy with classes and projects, and bursting with a delightful variety of fabrics and notions.

On the way home, I stopped at a great quilt show.  Quilters Anonymous 34th Annual Quilt Show "Quilts Under Northwest Skies". The show is probably the largest annual quilt show in the area. It draws more than 4,000 visitors, from the entire Puget Sound region as well as British Columbia.

Displayed were over 500 quilts in a dozen different categories, ranging from traditional styles to art quilts and other innovative designs. There is something for everyone to enjoy at the show. Plus a wonderful variety of merchants in the mall.

Evergreen Piecemakers, My Home Guild

It was really fun tonight presenting my new program, Blocks, Borders, Fabric, Oh My, for EP. I consider them to be my home guild. I have been a member for lots of years. Like most guilds their goal is to promote the art of quilting. And so much more. A safe place to share, learn and grow. If you don't belong to a guild I strongly suggest you join one.

Triangle Free Quilt Blocks

Me and my scrap quilts, I love them all! Sometimes I find a block from a book and I just have to make it. And stopping at one just isn't my style. Triangle Free Quilts by Judy Hopkins has one of those blocks. It's on the cover, and I made lots!
Skip the fuss of working with triangles! These classic quilts start with shapes that are a snap to sew -- and they're absolutely, positively, completely triangle-free.

Gotta love the color!

Gig Harbor Quilters

A mug rug exchange! What a fun idea!
Today was my day to visit the Gig Harbor Quilters. Fun bunch of ladies! They meet at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church, 7400 Pioneer Way, Gig Harbor Washington. Visit or join them if you are in Gig Harbor the first Wednesday of the month!
The Gig Harbor Quilters Guild promotes the interest and preservation of quilting. They accomplish this through fellowship programs featuring educational speakers and show and tell of projects. Members make and donate comfort quilts to cancer patients and pillowcases and blankets to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. A quilt is made by the group and raffled to support programs.
