More Doilies

China Cabinet
When adding a doily to your work, be sure to secure it very well in order to prevent snagging. Cut edges can be easily dealt with by sewing them into seams. Old doilies, often found in thrift stores and at yard sales, may have a stained or discolored section that you can easily cut out and still work the remaining pieces into your design.
Doilies on the label too!

Summer in Seattle means it time for Farmers Markets

Open since 2000, Ballard Farmers Market is Seattle's first year-round neighborhood farmers market selling produce exclusively from Washington state farmers. For 15 years of Sundays, the Market has operated along the historic cobblestone stretch of Ballard Avenue NW between Vernon Place and 22nd Avenue. In the spring of 2016, the Market expanded onto 22nd Avenue, extending to NW Market Street.
The mushrooms looked so good!

Couching Feet

These feet, also called cording or braiding feet, are used to attach decorative cords and threads to your project. The cord or thread runs under the foot, usually fed through holes on top, which keeps your embellishments from getting tangled when being sewn. Different feet have different size grooves for a variety of threads to be easily couched.

Melody’s Tip: There are a number of feet that will couch beautifully, in most cases the best one is the one you own.

The Upcycled T-Shirt by Jenelle Montilone

The Upcycled T-shirt Book with Personal Inscription In my travels I meet a lot of people. One of my favorites is Jenelle Montilone. She is into recycling big time. Her book The Upcycled T-Shirt: 28 Easy-to-Make Projects That Save the Planet Clothing, Accessories, Home Decor & Gifts is wonderful. There are so many fun and useful projects. We have become such a throw away society that it is wonderful to be able to find ways to bring old things back to life. Easy to follow instructions.

Doilies, using them

"A doily  is an ornamental mat, typically made of paper or fabric, and variously used for protecting

surfaces or binding flowers, in food service presentation, or as a head covering or clothing ornamentation. It is characterized by openwork, which allows the surface of the underlying object to show through."

Fremont Sunday Market

Established in 1990, the Market has evolved into a thriving, diverse European-Style street market that goes on indoor and outdoor year round. Vendors bring antiques, collectibles, bygones, retro, vintage, original fashion, tools, deluxe junk and estate sale treasures. In addition, there's a constantly changing bazaar of colorful world imports, new and original designers, artists and craftsmen with heart warming one-of-a-kind offerings.

More popular than ever is the eclectic menu offered by our street food vendors and a rotating cast of gourmet food trucks. The market is free to the public, pet-friendly, bike accessible and happens rain or shine. Bookended by Seattle's own Theo Chocolate to the West and the Red Door Ale House on the East end, its surrounded by a fabulous selection of neighboring shops, cafes and restaurants. The Fremont Market is how Seattle does Sundays.

The bonus? District Fabrics. Ashley, the owner, established the store in 2012 to provide Seattle area artists, designers and sewists with a unique selection of quality materials.

They specialize in fabrics for apparel and costuming.  You'll find a carefully curated collection that is
A Purse?
continually updated as new and unusual treasures are found. The stock of fabric includes everything from discounted sparkle tulles and polyesters to high end silks and woolens.

Linens and how to use them

If you find a linen item you love, but it's not in the best of shape, don't pass it by. Torn seams and holes can be darned; a stain can be hidden with a clever fold; a large piece can be cut and the salvaged remnant made into a pillow or mounted under glass.
Use vintage lace-edged sheets as curtains, bedspreads, even room dividers.
Put embroidered hand towels in powder rooms. Make them into little pillows or baby quilts as gifts.

I make quilts!

Pin Tuck Feet

Available with an assortment of grooves, they offer a wide variety for stitching classic pin tucks. Pin tuck
feet are primarily used for stitching double-needle pin tucks in light to heavy weight fabrics. Pin tucks are a great way to add surface decoration and texture to your sewing projects. The grooves under the foot tuck up the fabric in neat evenly spaced rows while they are stitched down.

The Ocean

Ruby Beach
The coast of Washington State is a beautiful vacation spot that offers many things to see and do for all ages. The remote Peninsula area is beautiful and rocky, but mostly inaccessible. Kalaloch boasts some of the most scenic, pristine, and remote beaches in the country.

We stopped for a stroll on Ruby Beach.

For thousands of marine species, these coastal waters are a safe haven. The marine environment and offshore islands are protected by three national wildlife refuges and Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. The refuges manage the islands visible above high tide waters for 135 miles along the coast. Large nesting colonies of birds like common murres and tufted puffins need these rocky outposts.

Kalaloch is one of the most visited areas of Olympic National Park. Kalaloch and Ruby Beach are located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula. They are accessible directly off of Highway 101.
