Super Stars: Quilts from the American Folk Art Museum
This exhibition is part of a twelve-month-long series of shows, educational programming, and special events organized by the museum to emphasize the creative contributions of three centuries of talented women. Presented in conjunction with a new publication that illustrates two hundred of the museum’s most significant bedcovers, “Super Stars” illuminates one theme in these textile masterpieces from the collection.

Shopping NYC
The City Quilter -- A quilting haven in New York City, the shop specializes in fabric for the urban quilter and sewer — sophisticated, contemporary, & exotic. Located in Manhattan's Chelsea district, the recently expanded 4,000 sq ft store has more than 4,000 bolts of 100% cotton fabric & is near to parking, mass transit, and shopping.
Speaking for the shopping... visited This 'n' That - the store that recalls the past with Jewelry, Antiques, and Collectibles.
Invinate Variety ... more details
Red & White has been a classic color scheme since the early nineteenth century. The popularity of this color combination can be traced to the color fastness of Turkey red.
The largest number of quilts on view are geometric pieced patterns. The variety of designs, and their names, were limited only by the quiltmakers' imaginations.

Infinite Variety -- Three Centuries of Red & White Quilts
These quilts, collected by Joanna S. Rose, are spectacular! While the idea of hundreds of quilts is impressive, the actuality is overwhelming. This presentation of quilts is magical!

Too Good to be True!
Words of wisdom from Charlotte Warr Andersen: "I thought I'd give you all a heads up about Frixion Erasable pens. A student showed me hers on my last road trip. She drew a line, thin but quite black, and then ironed it and the line totally disappeared. It looked like the coolest thing ever!
So I went in search of these pens, which you can get a Staples. I bought the pack that has three colors in it - black, red and blue. Being quite the skeptic about things that are too good to be true, I read the back of the package. In small print it says: "Do not expose to extreme temperatures (<14degrees> 140 degrees F). If pen is exposed to temperature that reaches 140 degrees F the ink will be colorless when writing. To restore color, cool to at least 14 degrees F and the ink will again write in color."
Aha! I said to myself. If you iron the ink it's going to be way over 140 degrees so it's going to disappear. So I took some fabric and scribbled on it with all three colors. Then I ironed it and, sure enough, all the scribbles disappeared. But then I put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes and all the lines reappeared. I left it for about a week and a half. Today I tried to wash the ink out. It didn't come out with soap and hard scrubbing and not even after I put rubbing alcohol on it. So then I ironed the piece dry and all the lines disappeared and then it went back to the freezer and all the lines reappeared (perhaps just a bit fainter).
This experiment was enough to persuade me that these pens are too good to be true and even sort of creepy - the ink is always there even if you can't see it. I wouldn't use them on any fabric or quilt you really cared about."

Star Bright - Greenwood Public Library Quilters
Hi Melody,
Our Star Bright quilt is coming along well. Attached are two photos, of the completed middle section and the rest of it in pieces ready to sew. The colours are better in real life, but you can get the idea of it. Today we sewed all the dark setting triangles, so next week we will be attaching them to the dark star blocks.
Thanks again for the pattern page you sent--it was a great help to us! We'll send more pictures in the coming weeks.

Quilt Show
The Green Flash
I make quilts that celebrate the things I see. The view from my window, the rising moon, stars in the sky, flowers in a garden, or a tropical sunset. I love to blend my passion for traditional design with my desire to experiment with color. The results are often surprising . . . a fantasy tropical sunset.
This quilt incorporates many commercial fabrics. All piecing and quilting were done by machine.
