A Doily is a small, ornamental mat, of embroidery or lace. Take a doily and create a beautiful work of art, suitable for framing or adding to your quilt. Learn to make folded hexagons, and yoyo’s to produce dimension. Melody will help you with the simple embroidery stitches and beads to complete the transformation.

Beads are a fun addition to many quilts and garments. Come learn how to use beads. Learn what to look for when you shop, how to sew those little beads that add so much to your designs. Melody will share with you design ideas, handling tips & sewing 
 techniques.

For the Love of Color

 

What you always wanted to know about color but were afraid to ask. Understand color concepts that quilters use – balance, pattern, texture, dominance and the many moods of color. We will play with a large variety of fabric samples, laying them out to experience for ourselves the magic we can create with glorious color.

Borders: The Final Chapter, featuring Pieced Borders


 Pieced borders add something special! Bring your unfinished quilt top and we will explore clever ways to add grace, spontaneity, sophistication or any effect you desire. Solve the mystery of designing and sewing borders to fit your own quilt. We will look at potential sources of inspiration, fabric choices, and lots and lots of tips for success!

We will explore whether to hand or machine quilt; selecting, fitting, and marking quilting design; all about thread; and the basics of batting and basting. The emphasis of this lecture is the creative use of the quilted line. Learn to successfully finish all your projects—both traditional and non-traditional quilters.
